Studio Ghibli teases mystery collaboration with Lucasfilm

Well, here’s some potentially exciting news, as Studio Ghibli – the famed anime company co-founded by Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata and Toshio Suziki – has taken to social media to tease a mystery collaboration with Lucasfilm, the home of the Star Wars saga.

As yet, there’s no further indication as to what this collaboration entails, nor do we even know for certain that it will be Star Wars-related (Lucasfilm also controls other IPs such as Indiana Jones and Willow, as well as the likes Monkey Island).

However, Lucasfilm has already put an anime spin on Star Wars with last year’s Star Wars: Visions, a series of animated shorts from acclaimed Japanese anime studios. Studio Ghibli was a notable exception first time around, and with more Star Wars: Visions shorts set to hit Disney+ in 2023 there’s speculation online that the studio behind the likes of Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro could be set to contribute to this second volume.

There’s also the possibility of some kind of feature film project, although with Hayao Miyazaki having already spent six years working on Ghibli’s next feature-length offering How Do You Live? then any movie will likely be some considerable time away yet.
